Winning combo

I'm all for comfort. But honestly, how many times do we sacrifice comfort in the name of fashion? I think a lot :) (which is totally fine, because hello, fashion!). So on the occasions that fashion and comfort can be combined, I'm all here for it. Take this dress for example, lightweight, stretchy and loose, but still nice fitting and classy. This is actually what I wore to church. I love the addition of the belt and the splits on the side, to give it that little bit extra.

Velveteen

Velvet is everywhere this season. Dresses, boots and leggings even I've seen so far, but a trench was new to me. I loved it the minute I saw it, the rich color and of course the soft feel. A great addition to my growing trench coat collection. I definitely have a thing for coats. Not so strange I would say. Especially in colder seasons, they're the first item everyone sees, before getting to show off the rest of your fit. They can add so much extra sass to an outfit and they keep you warm. Double win, right?

Code Orange

We've almost landed in winter already but not just yet... I think my favorite fall colors must be burgundy and pumpkin or burnt orange shades. This dress seemed like the perfect color for the season. I actually scored this dress while in Miami last summer, at the Charlotte Russe outlet for the whopping price of..... $2.95! I had to double check the price tag, so of course it was a no-brainer to take it with me. Now only if they would open a few stores here, I would be the happiest girl!

Pink to the max

You all know that pink is my happy color. So even when it gets colder and it rains, it always brings a smile to my face. This skirt is a perfect combination of pink mixed with fall hues with the orange and yellow added to the mix.

Saved.

I have the hardest time parting with my old clothes. There's just a voice inside of me saying: "But what if you regret it? What if you need it later?". With every item I grab this consideration comes to mind, and I have to say I'm happy I listen to my inner voice most of the time. This coat for example, I'm sure most of you remember it. I just browsed my outfit galleries and found out I posted it here 4 years ago. How time flies huh (I was 26!!!)? And even though studs are not so much "in" right now, army/olive green still is. We all know countless stories of mothers that saved their old fashion items, that could then be passed on to daughters because it came back in style. Now although this coat is nowhere near a classic vintage piece, I guess good things come to those who... save? :) How about you? Do you say goodbye to your previous faves easily?

Fall Hues

Sweater dresses seem to be quite the rage right now. And I can honestly say, I've literally been living in this one. I mean, what's not to love? They still give you the feminine feel of a dress, just a lot more softer and warmer. I love to pair them with over the knee boots or like I did here, with ankle boots. This color is perfect for fall, I have to say, those beautiful colors are what I like most about this season. Don't I blend in perfectly with the backgroud? (in a good way though :P)

Snake.

Fall is a great season to take my collection of coats for a spin. I recently cleaned up in my closet and I found a few gems I have neglected for too long. I am a sucker for animal prints, leopard- and snakeskin prints being my fave among them. So obviously, this coat had to come out and play :)

Burgundy

It's mac (trench) season, a time where the sun will still occasionally show herself and it's not too cold yet. If there's a brand that knows their macs, it has to be ELVI. Remember their all lace trench? And how about this one, a satin burgundy version (on sale now too!). I actually own three of their trench coats and I can't wait to add more (I mean did you see their metallic trench? omg). To compliment the coat and in true ELVI fashion -I noticed they love snake prints- I had to add these shoes to the mix.

The bag I got as a goody bag at an event, but I liked the way it looked with the coat. It's from a company that recycles clothes and makes other products out of them. Environmental chic!

Greyscales

When I think of my trip to New York last summer, a lot of good memories come to mind. A lot of good clothes too. I actually had to book an extra suitcase for the flight back :) This dress was among one of my finds. I brought a visit to the Monif C. showroom and tried it on, I wore it the whole time I was there, it was tooo good to take off! The steel blue/grey color, the fit, the model of the dress are all so me. The shoes, ohhhh the shoes! " Sparkle" should have been my middle name. I stumbled upon these at a mall in Miami. My sister saw the hearts in my eyes and decided to gift them to me as a belated birthday present. Yay for sisterly love! :)

Fringe Benefits

If you follow me on Instagram, you probably would have seen that I took a break due to the loss of my grandfather, whom I loved dearly. Although it's better this way for him (as he was very sick), losing someone you hold close is something you will never get used to.  The void, the memories. I want to thank all of you for the well wishes, they meant a lot to me.

My grandfather was always so supportive and loved what I did with my blog. His first comments after greeting me were always about my outfits and how he loved my look. There was this instance where he was there when I took some blog pics and he even instructed me on how to pose for my pictures, something I now consider a precious memory. I am eternally grateful that both my husband and especially my daughter got to know him so well, as they never had that chance with my grandmother. Alas, losing loved ones is a part of life, and to be honest, the part I fear most. And as crazy as it sounds, life does go on. It has to. I'm trying to get back into my "happy place" and that definitely involves fashion! To make it a little more fun, this skirt gives all the happy feels a girl could ever need. And I'm sure he would have loved this too!

Off the Grid

I'm sneaking in my last few summer styles before fall is officially here. I'm definitely getting better in keeping my all white looks clean throughout the whole day, practice really makes perfect I guess! Yay me! This old biker jacket is still a favorite of mine, I'm so happy I got greedy and got one in black too :)

Fairy Trails

There's this thing with capes and trails that just make me feel like my own kind of superhero. Invincible, but in a fashionable way. If you would have seen my face while I was walking around in this fierce beauty, you would have laughed so hard. I could not keep a straight face. With every step I took, that cape was flying everywhere. I felt like royalty and my smile was from ear to ear. At that moment, that sidewalk was my runway. Yaaaas!

Back in lime

You can't go wrong with neoprene/scuba fabric. It's stretchy, super soft and comfortable.
I picked up this skirt while I was in New York and it was a steal! It was marked down for $14, so needless to say, it had to come with me. While browsing my closet for a top to pair it with, I actually liked my bikini top best and hey, why not? With all these cute swimwear options nowadays, it's a waste to save them only for the beach. Right? :)

Shake your "Moni" maker

Okay, so by now you all know my love for word play and corny jokes. I can't help it, but I am the type of girl to laugh at her own puns and jokes (annoys my husband to bits, HA!). So when I saw this absolutely stunning, colorful, marvelous top, was called "Moni", I knew I had to put that in the title of this post in some way. But I'm serious tho. You should totally get her! Get Moni! (see what I did there?) I felt so Carmen Miranda, Chiquita Banana like. And come on, who wouldn't want to be that fab? That's what I thought. ;)

Very Cherry

I am holding on to summer for dear life and this week, there's a heatwave coming our way. Kinda sucks when you have to work, but hey, I will not complain. Bodysuits are my latest obsession and I am particularly fond of the ones that you can pull off as a swimsuit as well. I mean this one would be so Baywatch-ey right? On the other hand, there are a few cute swimsuits that you can also pull off as a bodysuit, a mutual win situation I think. Up side is definitely not having my top crawl out of my jeans when I move around too much, I hate that.

Anyway, cheers to a new week!

L'Afrique C'est Chic

African prints give me all types of life. I love the variety of patterns, prints and the vibrant colors. I've always admired the women who wear them so gracefully in different designs. When I saw this set I knew now was the time to try for myself. Y'all know how I feel about throwing in that Angelina leg every once in a while and I sure did not waste any time doing it now!

Style note: I'm wearing the Basi set in a size 3XL. I could have done a 2XL for the skirt but I definitely needed a 3XL for my boobs ;). The item is sold as a set so it is not possible to choose separate sizes for tops and bottoms. Sizes range from small to 4 XL. Oh, and this skirt has POCKETS!! :)

I can't tell you how long I had my eyes on this one, hoping it would be on sale soon (and available of course!) and when I checked the site a few weeks ago, there it was! To me this suit embodies class and sophistication, It is very feminine with the right touch of sass. And to add some extra sass, the wind would not stop messing up my hair! Bodacious

There are so many types of dresses in this world: dresses that make you look sweet, dresses that make you look charming, etc. and dresses that give your body extra BODY by bringing out your assets in the best way possible. THIS is one of those dresses. First of all, the color, it is absolutely stunning, it pops! Secondly, the fit, it is so comfortable and looks amazing. It is body hugging but does not show flaws (well, maybe I just don't have any, lol). It brings out your figure in the best way possible and I have to admit, I felt really feminine and sexy in it. I think I need this in every color!

Set, Match

I live for matching sets. Apart from them being an easy way out whenever you're not inspired to match a top or a pair of pants with something else, they're just cute. In this case, the flower print is so lovely. Both make good items to pair with anything else but I liked wearing them together. I actually came across this set after taking the MS Mode summer quiz to determine what type of summer person I am. For my Dutchies, check out the Summer quiz MS Mode is hosting on their Facebook page, there are great prices to win!

Honeymooning

Summer is still in full swing! I'm enjoying every minute of it, as Dutch summers have proven to be quite unpredictable. You already know how much I love an all white, clean look, and this dress is a cutie! It fits beautifully, feels great and it was a bargain! Those are the best. In my mind this dress takes me to a honeymoon on a beautiful beach, walking barefoot near the turquoise blue water. If only that were true (I'd love a second honeymoon!).

Sequin Mermaid

This color hue gives me all sorts of mermaid feels. It's like Ariel herself donated some sheddings of her mermaids tail in order to have this bomber made (thank you, Ariel!). It is so lovely. When you're more in an Ursula (my girlllll) kind of mood, just rub over the sequins and turn it into a black bomber. Yay for versatility again, 2 coats in one!

We all know that although sequins are sooo glittery and pretty, they can scratch like hell. I was pleasantly surprised that this bomber was fully lined with a thick, satin like fabric, protecting you from all the itchy scratchiness that sequins bring. Making it super comfortable to wear, you don't even feel them. As a true 'sequinista', I can tell you that it's not always the case. Pretty hurts, I guess. Oh, well.

Summer Prints

I think we've seen this print on literally every item at H&M. And I like all of them, but this jumpsuit I really wanted to try. The whole collection with this print is from the main range, not their plus size section (which still needs an upgrade if you ask me, but that's a different discussion), and since I never shy away from "straight size" shopping, I took the liberty of ordering it.

Quick style note: This jumpsuit has no stretch, I ordered the largest size, which is a European 46 (UK18, US16). I'm usually a 46/48 (UK18/20, US16/18).

Much to my surprise, it fit perfectly, and I absolutely love the colors and the way it fits on me. I personally think it looks better in real life actually. This gives me such a 70's feel (which I know is already "out of style", but I don't give a sh*t) and I'm all here for it!

Three times a Lady

I think it's safe to say that this is one of the most beautiful dresses I have ever owned. It doesn't get any more ladylike than this. It's super feminine, classy, but sexy and fits a wide range of different body shapes. I already gave a quick peek at it on my snapchat (add me, @supersizemyfash) and received nothing but love. I encountered quite a few stares when I walked around in this dress, so get ready to turn a few heads if you decide to get it! My mom (who also took these lovely pics, thank you mom!), was completely over the moon with it so she ordered the baby blue version. She's not plus size and what I like best is that this dress is available in their Curve range, as well as their main range. Finally you can play twinsies with your non-plus sized bestie, mom, auntie or whatever! Extra points for their wide range of sizes!

Happy 4th of July to all my USA babes! Today is a special day. Although I don't live in the States, the 4th of July is a special day for me as well. Not because of independance but more because of dependance I could say. Today marks my 7th wedding anniversary with my love. 7 years already, makes me feel so old, lol. Love is such a beautiful thing. I can honestly say that after being together for 12,5 years, of which 7 married, we're still happily in love. I feel so blessed and priviliged for that.

Mac Lacy

Can we all just take a moment of silence for the perfection that is this lace mac?
*.................................................................*

Okay, thank you. There are a hundred things I could say about this coat but I won't. The coat speaks for itself. If looking at it does not give you the feeling that this is a perfect addition to your wardrobe, then well, I can't help ya ;) *I will add that it also comes in a charcoal grey color. I had the hardest time choosing between the two to be honest.*

At this moment, I'm super busy finishing the last things at work and preparing for my trip to New York on Friday. I am so excited y'all, I can't deal. I have the hardest time packing, as for one, I absolutely HATE packing, and secondly, I don't want to bring too much with me -'cause I'll need to save enough room for my purchases- but it's hard to choose what to leave behind. First world problems I guess. Well, back to packing!

Thirty, Flirty and Thriving

And then it's here... I remember watching the movie '13 going on 30' and wondering what the hell was wrong with that girl. Why in the world would you wish to be 30? What's so fab about it? If I were her, I would have gone for 25. Too old to be considered a rookie, but still well in your twenties. Don't get me wrong, I don't think 30 is old. But I loved my twenties. Since there is still no way to stop time it was inevitable that the big 3-0 would come for me one day. And now, ladies and gents, the day is here. To mentally prepare myself (which I have been doing for the last two years) I spoke to several fabulous thirty somethings and for many, it is a special moment. The moment when you look back at your life to see how you've done so far. To see if you reached all the goals you set for yourself in the past. Let's go over the cliché ones:

Coral

I think nothing screams summer more that bright yellows and corals. And I have to say, it's about time summer actually came and stayed! Temperatures have been rising indeed but so have the water levels. It's been raining a lot I can tell you. Luckily, things are starting to look better as of this weekend. Having said that, with a sunny season, come not so sunny allergies... My hay fever is trying to get the best of me right now but as my birthday is fastly approaching, I'm putting all my effort in not to succumb to the drama that is called itchy eyes, constant sneezing and asthma :/

Now on to the dress. The dress is MS Mode's signature dress for the season and they even made Mattel's new curvy Barbie one! Super cute. The cut is super flattering on any body type I would say, and I do consider it a season musthave.

Versatile

I love when you can get the most out of a dress. When it's versatile, and can be switched up. I guess that's why multi-way dresses were invented (I have yet to get me one!), but this is also a nice option. A dress that comes with a detachable top so that you can either choose to wear it as a strappy dress, or not. I like both ways actually. It's hardly noticable in the pictures unfortunately, but the dress is an icy blue color, with a subtle snake skin pattern. It's all in the details; things that are not always obvious, but add to something in a great way.

By the way: if you look closely, you will still be able to see some henna on my hand, from my friend's wedding. I absolutely loved it!

Hats High

Let's not forget about hats! Hats come in so many varieties and a floppy sun hat adds a certain sophisticated-ness to a look. Any look for that matter, but very cute with a nice dress. For some reason I don't wear hats that often, even though I love them. I guess it's the sloppy girl in me that,
when taking the hat off for a while, will leave it lying everywhere and ends up losing it :/ I just can't help myself. But, if you're totally not like me, definitely do it!

Something Blue

Let's spice up this wedding season with some color right? A pretty blue always does the trick. Last week's weather also had me feeling a little blue. We went from warm, sunny weather to cold and rainy all within one day's time. Don't let that steal your shine though! Even when planning/attending a wedding in May with higher chances of great weather, there's always the possibility of not so great weather (at least here in the Netherlands). It can be unpredictable at times but in the end it's the love that counts. And just remember, marriages also have sunny days and rain from time to time, as long as the love comes out on top, everything will be just fine! :)

Sparkly Peach

As a real pink/flower/sequin lover, I was over the moon when I saw this dress. A wedding is a perfect occasion to take this baby out for a spin. The model of the dress is simple, as it does not need an extravagant design and because of the embellishments, I felt no need to add more accessories. Some sparkly shoes in the mix to compliment the dress and all done!

Bridal Mermaid.

The best thing about being a bride to be (apart from getting married to the man of your dreams of course!) is all the dressing up you get to do. Especially nowadays, when there's the engagement party, the bridal shower, the bachelorette party and the rehearsal dinner! All occasions for you to shine in cute fits as the glorious day fastly approaches. I do have to add that in typical Dutch culture, there are not so many occassions; usually just the bachelorette party and the wedding itself. But if you do happen to have all these seperate mini-celebrations, why not serve some pre-wedding glam?

I feel this dress gives just the right amount of fabness, sassiness, sexiness and above all classiness (and not to forget, mermaidness!). Mega win!

Suitable

I live for beautiful dresses and skirts, but I know they're not for everyone.
So when it comes to my wedding theme, I also wanted to step away from the typical dresses and skirts and give you a different option. If you've been a long-time reader of my blog, you know that I'm always here for a good suit. In my eyes, you can do no wrong with a nice suit; it looks clean, professional, but can also look sophisticated enough for a special occasion. Especially when the right accessories are added to the mix. In order to give it more of a "romantic" feel, I decided to pair it with a lightweight flowy top instead of a regular shirt or tank top. Pearls are also a great idea to add to the outfit, but then again, pearls are ALWAYS a great idea.

Keeping in line with the theme, I also switched up my nails from holographic glitter (which was awesome by the way, see my instagram for pics!), to a more neutral, wedding style. Although the nail tech in me is already thinking of what to do next :)

So how do you feel? Would you rock a suit to a wedding?

C'est Sleek

Wedding wear does not equal A-line skirts and flowy dresses. Sleek silhouettes are just as good. They show another level of sophistication and for me, this particular outfit makes a beautiful "mother of the bride" outfit. Not necessarily of course, it would look good on any guest. I love the clean lines and the less is more feel of this look. And if you do want to add something to the mix, try some fancy headwear! I added this feather fascinator to switch it up a little and it immediately upgraded the look from simplistic to "royal wedding" (at least, that's how Dutch royals typically dress).

Style notes: This coat is absolutely amazing! The pictures, don't do it justice, it's a shimmery tweed fabric, so luscious! The dress is a very soft, comfortable and stretchy fabric and yes, it has pockets in the front!

Maxi Chic

I am obsessed with maxi dresses. And good thing that they come in all sorts of variations. From casual and comfy, to chic. With all the embellishments and the lightweight skirt it's perfect for a wedding. I got this dress a while ago and I'm actually wearing it to a friend's wedding next week.

Fade to Black

Black is not always the first color that comes to mind when attending a spring/summer wedding (apart from the tuxes for the men of course), but actually, why not? It is oh so chic. Especially when there are splits, and capes and what nots involved. I'm a sucker for "Gone with the wind" fab dresses so this one was right up my alley. This dress gives me a "glam wedding" feel, one with lots of cocktails and fancy stuff. How I wish there was a mojito in my hand right now... :)

Cream of the crop

When thinking of wedding attire, the first colors that come to mind are of course white/ivory/cream shades. And although they are not considered a custom anymore ('cause really, where whatever you want on YOUR day), they are still by far the most common colors you'll see around. So why not get in the mood by starting off the season with something so obviously wedding-y? :)

This dress oozes romance, you actually don't need flowers to tell you that. Still I added them anyway ;) I absolutely love this one shoulder model and the sheer overlay. I would say this is a perfect bridesmaids dress, but I think some would even consider wearing it for their own wedding or bridal shower. And for this price, it is a major win! You would definitely be laughing your way to the altar!

Ivory Goodness

This dress... This dress had me all up in my feelings the minute I saw it online. It is the perfect fancy dress, but not too fancy. Completely covered and all the way up to your neck, but still sexy. Very feminine and not too old fashioned. I'm sure you get the picture now ;)

All there's left to say now is: get it while you still can (link is under the last picture)!

xxx

Stylenote: I sized up when ordering this dress because it seemed this was a stiff, non-stretchy fabric. It actually is soft and the lining of the dress is made from stretch fabric. The lace layer is just fine, I could have ordered my own size for a slightly more hugging fit.

I do have to admit I would have liked it even better if it was a tad bit longer, but hey, you either DO sexy or you DON'T! Right ladies? Ghehe ;)
